about me

Hello there! My name is Jess Johnson. I’m 24 and I live in a modest home (with a wonderful kitchen) in Mesa, AZ with my husband Jeff, our newly adopted 16 year old daughter, Alexa (I’m not joking), 2 roommates (Ben and Gabe), our kitty Uzzi and a soon-to-be-acquired puppy (name undecided). I’ve been married since 2007 and my husband and I recently moved to Arizona from Seattle, WA.

The reason I decided to start a food and entertaining blog is because even though I’m not an extravagant, over-the-top, truffle-using, flambé-doing chef… I love to cook. The problem is that I have an underwhelming amount of time to cook seeing as how I am a full-time student, part-time barista, but also full-time wife, mother & friend. I think there are a lot of young & busy housewives out there, just like me, who even though are on a budget and tight schedule want to do an excellent job cooking (non-boring) dinner for their families, and every once in a while, throw an awesome get together with friends and give people a night to remember. My husband and I love entertaining and having people in our home to play games, eat good food and live in community in an active way.  We are big believers that homes are meant to be used, and back porches are meant to be gathered on with the sound of tinkling dishes and laughter drifting into the evening air. This blog is simply my recordings of the adventure of exploring what it means to be a wife and a friend with everyday food and simple entertaining.

    I love, love, your site. The pictures and the fun explantions, you are very creative.
    I tried the straw, tomato idea. I thought you said suck the seeds, it worked. A very healthy new way to get the seeds out. I later reread it and realized you said scrap them out. O well I had a blast sucking seeds!!!!!

I literally could not stop laughing as I imagined you sitting there sucking the seeds out of the tomato probably thinking “wow, what a weird way to get seeds out!”. Man oh man. Well thank you for sharing your experience. I went back and edited that post hopefully making it more clear for future seed suckers 🙂 love you! Thanks for trying the idea at least, you’re a trooper!
